Cystatin C is most widely used as a diagnostic marker for kidney function. Routine kidney function tests measure serum Creatinine, Urea and Glomular Filtration Rate (GFR). Serum Cystatin C is measured as part of measuring GRF, as it is quicker and easier than traditional techniques of collecting urine samples over a 24 hour period.
